Hotel Buffet at Straits Cafe Rendevous

[Straits Cafe @ Rendevous]

Hotel buffets, I’ve been to alot, what sections I look out for at a buffet place were seafood on ice, chef specialities, live stations and of course, DESSERTS! Girls usually have another tummy for desserts. It would be good if coffee and tea were included. Price definitely a factor but quality was as important for me.

Now you could enjoy different discount tiers at Straits Cafe buffet line situated in Rendevous Hotel. Price affordable, comes  with mainly traditional asian dishes from local scenes, Penang, Ipoh, KL plus seafood on ice and a wide variety of desserts which includes the irresistible durian pengat!

During my visit there’s salad, mini lobsters, oysters, clams, snowcrab legs, steamed seabass, braised tofu, live station of white curry noodles/ipoh hor fun, Indian Rojak, cakes etc etc.

Let me go straight to which parts or rather what dishes I love most from this buffet line at Straits.

(1) Bread section
There’s many types of different loaves and breadsticks offered. But the key love was the truffled butter. It was so good my ratio of bread to butter was 1:3. I usually skipped carbo loading but not this one. Garlic and herbs butter available too.

(2) Live station of Fried Sambal Seafood and vegetables.

At this live station, choose your own seafood and vegetables by jotting down on the sheet provided, pass it to the chef together with your table clip and it’s done. The chef will fry the chosen ingredients with sambal chilli on the hotplate and only sambal chilli version available. I enjoyed the freshly cooked upon order, pipin’ hot seafood on my table. Spicy level could up abit more though.

Not forgetting to mention their curry mutton was quite good and have lobsters cooked in “chilied crab style” at the cooked food section.

(3) Desserts

Durian lovers rejoice! Because other than wide varieties of cakes and kuehs provided, there were quite a number of durian dessert items. There’s durian tartlets, puffs, cakes, crepes and also the irresistible durian pengat. I passed all others and only took durian. In my opinion, best choice was the durian pengat. You could bite durian flesh in each and everyone of them (oops I had a few shares uncontrollably). Ice cream available if none of the above attracts you.

My overall experience here was pleasant. I would not say it’s wow wow but for the price promotions, I can say it’s good for gathering with family and friends over a simple lunch/dinner without much stress or expectations. Space definitely not a problem, there’s seats for any sized groups. Also note that dishes here were on rotating basis (sadly I didn’t get to try the famous peranakan laksa) so call in to check with restaurant for their latest menu.
