It’s Surf and Turf at Royale

[Royale]

Recently there’s many promotions for buffets line and this one at Royale’s was one of them. Royale was having “Surf n Turf” theme and if you book through HungryGoWhere link/app, you could enjoy 1 for 1 buffet lunch/dinner promotion till 27th May 2018.

Walking into the restaurant already impressed me because the ambience it portrait felt like a sultan palace. Furnitured with marble tables with gold brims, diamanté studded cushion sofa seats, I felt like a queen. We were also welcomed by the table full of colorful desserts at the entrance doorway and this was the first time I received a welcome “doorgift” for attending a buffet session.

The welcome door gift for this “Surf n Turf” theme was a platter that comprises of  Black Pepper Crab, a Clam Gratin and a mini Beef Slider for each person. The black pepper crab was good.

The signature Lor Mee with Crayfish was another dish that you wouldn’t want to miss. The Lor Mee gravy was thick, sticky and full of flavours. I added more garlic, chilli and corriander to give it an extra kick. I usually refused to do carbo loading at buffets but not this one.

The seafood on ice section was a little disappointing, with only scallops, steamed prawns and mussels, the selections were way too small to mention.  No sashimi but there’s a small section of sushi rolls for Japanese food lovers.

Hot dishes they have quite a number and chef’s latest renditions of Mongolian style slow braised Lamb Leg, BBQ Pork Ribs with Lychee Pearls, Duck Leg Confit with Tomato and Garlic and the Prawn bisque with Brandy were items that I would recommend.

I love the crispy skin of the duck confit and also the umami prawn bisque that brought out the fullness of crustaceans with strong aftertaste of alcohol. The pretty slab of Nyonya Baked Seabass Fillet with Pineapple Slaw on the carving board was attractive but a pity that the texture was a little too dry on the surface.

If all the above mentioned still can’t fill up your tummy, frad not, there’s a wide range of ready-mixed salads, greens, bread toast, pastries for you to choose from. You be also glad to know that coffee and tea were included in this buffet line.

When comes to desserts, kids definitely won’t miss the chocolate fondue area where they could soak the whole stick of marshmallows dripping in chocolate sauce! All cakes were freshly made daily by the in-house patisserie and my vote goes to the strawberry shortcake which I forgotten to take a clear shot of it. The fresh cream was so light and airy, cake texture so soft, totally no burden eating a big slice.

My whole experience here was pleasant. Although the buffet spread wasn’t huge like some bigger players in the market but good enough to fill up my tummy. Service staff could step up a little in servicing caused they took quite a long time to clear our dirty dishes to the extend we had to leave them on the empty table beside to make space for new food. I would also suggest Royale to put up an ice cream corner as ice cream was one of the favorite after-dinner desserts for many of us.
